Secure camera installation
locked down before we hand you the keys.
Camera systems get compromised in boring ways — a factory password nobody changed, or a recorder pointed straight at the open internet. Here’s exactly what we do about that on every job.

A camera is a computer on your network.
That’s the part most people never get told. Every camera and every recorder is a small networked computer, shipped with a published factory login and a pile of services switched on by default. Installed without a second thought, it becomes the easiest way onto the same network as your point of sale, your files, and your office machines — and the recorder holding your footage becomes reachable from anywhere.
None of this is exotic, and none of it is a separate line on your labour — it’s simply how we install. Where segmenting your cameras needs a managed switch you don’t have yet, that’s hardware and it goes on the quote where you can see it. Here’s the checklist we work through on every install, commercial or residential.
Eight things we do on every install.
What this is not.
We’re a licensed low-voltage contractor, not an IT security firm, and we’d rather say so plainly than let the word “security” do work it hasn’t earned. We don’t do penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, or compliance audits. We don’t manage your firewall, your email, or your servers, and we don’t staff a helpdesk. We’re not a monitoring service — nobody here is watching a screen on your behalf.
What we do is install cameras, recorders, cabling, and network gear — and configure the part we install so it isn’t the weakest thing on your network. If you already have an IT provider, we’d rather coordinate with them on the VLAN and switch configuration than work around them.

Straight answers, no jargon.
No, and we won’t call it that. We don’t do penetration testing, security monitoring, or IT management, and we don’t staff a helpdesk. This is the security of the equipment we install — your cameras, your recorder, and the network segment they sit on — set up properly instead of left on factory settings.
No. It’s how we install — there’s no hardening add-on and no upgraded tier that unlocks changing your passwords. If your network needs a managed switch to segment the cameras properly, that’s hardware, and it’s on the quote up front.
Yes. We service and take over systems we didn’t install. That starts as a $195 diagnostic visit — we check which cameras and recorders are still on factory defaults or reachable from the internet and tell you what’s worth fixing. The $195 is credited in full when you approve the repair.
No. We stay in our lane: the cameras, the cabling, the network gear we install, and the segment they sit on. If you already have an IT provider, we’ll coordinate with them on the VLAN and switch configuration rather than work around them.
You do. They go into an encrypted vault as part of your client file, and you get them. A system you can’t log into isn’t really yours.
